Re: Footing without reinforcing steel?

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
ken,

Oh, yes you can provided it satisfies the punching shear requirements. However, a 2.5 k load is quite a light load; the size would depend on the bearing capacity & any thickness around 300 mm (12-in) of plain concrete should satisfy the shear requirements.

But if you go by CODE, it always stipulates a minimum reinforcement for any thickness of structural concrete works.

So, a plain concrete would suffice the structural requirements but if you need to submit your calculation for review (to any authority) they might argue on a minimum reinforcement requirements.

Can I accept the footing without reinforcing steel which supporting light load private entry canopy column (about 2.5k)? The area of the footing is about 3 s.f. This house is located in seismic zone 3.
