Soils Reports

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
The requirement for a geoterchnical report for every project is a requirement of the Alberta Building Code and National Building Code of Canada.  It is not strickly enforced by most juristictions but is a mandatory permit requirement in Edmonton.  After designing structures in Northern Alberta and B.C. for some twenty five years I insist on a soils report prior to making assumptions for most projects.
The requirement for verification of information derived from the soils report is also required by inspections performed by the SER or represenative.  Personnaly I carry a pocket pentrometer in my vehicle to verify unconfined compressive strengths assumed in pile designs.
