Re: RE: Shear Tabs Connections with slotted holes

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]

AISC has conducted additional research into the extended shear tabs. This testing was done by Don Sherman and Al Ghorbanpoor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I believe that AISC has a design guide being written that will use this research.

In a nutshell Sherman testing shows that if you use Astaneh's method outlined in Appendix C of the Volume II Connection Book, this is a conservative method.

Subject: Shear Tabs Connections with slotted holes

In the ASD 9th Edition, it states that values in Table X may be overly
conservative for snug tight bolts in slotted holes and that research was
being conducted on this subject.

Has there been any recent update on this subject.
