Min. Concrete Cover for Swimming Pool

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Gentlemen/Women,

ACI 350 ( Environmental Engineering Concrete Structures) has dealt with this
issue in detail in Table 2.5 of this publication. However, the salient
recommendations are as follows

- for base slabs = 2-in (50 mm) at formed surfaces
                   and bottoms bearing on
                   concrete work mat.

                 = 3-in (75 mm) at unformed
                   surfaces and bottoms in
                   contact with earth

- for walls = 2-in (50 mm)

In case of BS 8007 (Design of Concrete Structures for Retaining Aqueous
Liquids), the stipulation is for a uniform cover of 40 mm or 1.5-in.

It should be noted if the nominal cover is increased, crack widths will
increase, especially flexural and direct tension cracks in sections less
than 300 mm (12-in) thick.

Hope that helps. Regards,
