Re: Existing Brick Anchorage

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Charlie,

Most adhesive anchor approvals [ICBO-ES is the approval agency I'm familiar with] do not allow the anchors to be used for gravity loads in unreinforced brick masonry walls --  generally they are intended for wind and seismic anchorage only.

Old brick masonry is not as hard as modern masonry -- it often was constructed with lime mortar, with little or no cement.  Workers familiar with modern masonry often are concerned when they find they can rub aggregate particles out of masonry joints with their fingers.  You might have walls that are no worse than ordinary for their time.
