Title: New Masonry on Existing Slabs on Grade
Usually a new footing is required, espcially if it's a new bearing wall.  Unless the existing slab on grade is 36" thick :)

Subject: New Masonry on Existing Slabs on Grade

I was wondering how other people handle placing new masonry bearing walls on top of existing slabs on grade?  Is the slab cut out and a footing placed, or does the masonry rest directly on the slab, or something else?  What are pros and cons for the details that are used?
