RE: Backing Bars at CJP welds on Special Moment Frames Joints

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Common practice, and as recommended by FEMA 350 and 353, is to remove the
backing at the bottom flange, backweld, and add a reinforcing fillet. At the
top flange, the backing may remain, but a reinforcing fillet should be added
between the backing and the column flange.

Backing Bars : remove after CJP welds are completed or leave in place? If
removed, is it only the backing bar below the bottom flange that needs to
be
removed? If anyone has an answer, I would appreciate your response. Thanks
