RE: Teak wood

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
>From the "Wood Handbook" printed by the Forest Products Laboratory here is
the following information:

General background: Strength properties are on a par with that of U.S.
Oaks. Does not cause corrosion of metal when in contact with it, therefore
it's used in shipbuilding, tanks, vats, fixtures requiring high acidic
resistance.

At 12% MC - SG = 0.55, MOR = 14,600 psi, E = 1.55 x 10E6 psi, Comp parallel
to grain = 8410 psi, Fv parallel = 1890 psi. Keep in mind that these values
are from the results of testing on small, clear straight grained specimens
and that the info is from world literature and not experiments conducted in
the Forest Products Laboratory.

Does anybody have structural information regarding "teak": stresses etc.
Thanks
