GUARD RAIL FOUNDATION/ANLYSIS & DESIGN ?

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Learned Members of the LIst,

As you all may be knowing GUARD RAILS are protective barriers along side
roads to protect the 'Street Furnitures'. Its other purpose is also to keep
the vehicles within it, when hit, and not allow it to overturn or return to
the track which might cause collision with the vehicles on this track.

The GUARD RAIL foundations are usually not Engineered & the supplier's
recommendation vis-a-vis its foundation is adopted. But I need to Engineer
it because Iam contemplating an 'Alternate Foundation Type' for it.

My questions therefore are:

   - how to go about the analysis & design of
the guard rail foundations? For those of you
who donot know it already, the GURAD RAIL
      consists of:

         - a flex beam of corrugated sheet metal
fixed to the post; the post is usually a
Channel Section about 700 mm (2ft-4in)
high & center to center distance between
posts are usually 1.90m or 6 ft 4-in.

         - the post is either driven into the soil
or usually embedded in the concrete
foundation which is usually 1.20 m
deep; the plan dimension of this
           concrete foundation is usually 450&450
           or 18"* 18".

   - What forces should be taken into account?

Any body having experience in the analysis & design of GUARD RAIL FOUNDATION
willing to share his/her expertise, please? Thanx in advance for the help.
