Christopher,

I'd agree with you that the things related to "pronunciation" are taking
things too far ... I'm guilty of that.  But you've got to admit that
some of the mistakes in terminology; such as "cement", "rerods" and
"footers"; are pretty funny.  I'm sure I've got Contractors laughing
their heads off at some of the things that I've said, too.

Now, I know that you've heard some of these things, too, and I'm dying
with curiosity to hear them ... I don't think I'm "copping an attitude",
just adding some fun to a stressful week, I guess.

You're right to a degree--the fact that so few engineers can write a 
clear paragraph or even spell is indeed sad, but that's what makes
irony.
