RE: Steel Upset Rod

An upset rod is a rod that has a larger diameter end on it that contains
threads. The threaded area generally exceeds the area of the main rod. Check
an older steel manual like the 6th Edition page 4-92 and 4-93. I don't know
if they are used much today, but years ago, we used them on long, large
diameter rods, like tie backs for sheet pile walls.
