AISC Requests information on Seismic Steel Moment Connections

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
In response to the requirements of the 2002 Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings, AISC has formed an ANSI accredited Connections Prequalification Review Panel (CPRP). The panel will prepare an ANSI consensus standard for prequalified beam-to-column moment connections for use in Special Moment Frames (SMFs), Intermediate Moment Frames (IMFs), and link-to-column connections in Eccentrically Braced Frames (EBFs).

The new standard will provide engineers with a code-referencable resource that specifies the applicable limits of prequalification for various connection technologies, eliminating the need to produce specific qualification test data to substantiate designs. Prequalification of connections will be conducted according to the requirements of Appendix P of the Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings.

Test data and information on the performance of a series of connections is currently being collected by the CPRP to assist in the evaluation of various connection technologies. Initially the committee will evaluate the connections included in FEMA 350 which include:

Welded Unreinforced Flange, Welded Web (WUF-W)
Welded Unreinforced Flange, Bolted Web (WUF-B)
Free Flange (FF)
Reduced Beam Section (RBS)
Welded Flange Plate (WFP)
Bolted Unstiffened End Plate (BUEP)
Bolted Stiffened End Plate (BSEP)
Bolted Flange Plate (BFP)
Double Split Tee (DST)

AISC requests that all available test data and information on the connections listed above or any others be submitted to Christopher Hewitt of AISC via email to hewitt(--nospam--at)aisc.org, or by calling 312.670.5426.
