RE: Modeling of Grade Beam??

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Bill,

The last time I went through an elastic beam foundation analysis was
1985. The copy of my calcs showed that we went through the "I
effective" analysis of ACI Ch 9. We assumed an initial M applied and
went through a hand analysis for elastic beam and rechecked the initial
assumptions. We started out with Ie = .33Ig. When we rechecked after
getting a more accurate moment and keeping our soil pressure down to
2000 psf, we widened the beam, keeping the depth the same, and ended up
with Ie = .25 Ig. (We were younger then). I would opine that Ie =
.33Ig (using Ec for stiffness).

Subject: Modeling of Grade Beam??

O.K., if I DON'T want to do FEM, what's a good recommendation for
modeling the stiffness of a grade beam?

0.5 EIg ?
