Re: Hot Dipped Galvanized A722 Rods

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
It is not mentioned in the ASTM spec, however, since A722 is 150 ksi material would it be objectionable to hot-dip these rods similar to the precaution recommended for A490 bolts?
Guess it depends upon how many of the same factors are in play.
(1) acid pickling before plating?
(2) will they be highly stressed?
(3) service in a moisture-rich environment?
(4) are alloys susceptible to hydrogen-related failures permitted by A722?
(5) is there a maximum tensile strength in A722?
One guy who seems to know the most about this subject is Salim Brahimi of Ibeca Technologies, (514) 944-3358, SalimBrihimi(--nospam--at)
He was the lead developer of recently published ASTM F1940 Test Method for Process Control Veification to Prevent Hydrogen Embrittlement in Plated or Coated Fasteners.
Hope that helps,
