National Workshop on Innovative Applications of FEM in Highway Structures

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
In today's world of high-end computers, the finite element analysis (FEA) method has emerged as a powerful tool for structural applications. To advance the use of this important analysis method throughout the highway community, the Federal Highway Administration encourages you and your associates to join us for the first national workshop on "Innovative Applications of Finite Element Modeling in Highway Structures" in New York City on August 20-21, 2003. By bringing distinguished experts in the FEA arena together, we have designed a diverse program well suited for Transportation Department officials as well as practicing engineers.

Recent developments related to highway structures include, but are not limited to, the following:
	*	Accurately accessing the reserved strength of structurally deficient bridges;
	*	Forensic investigation of fracture cracking and failures in structures;
	*	Performing nonlinear bridge responses under extreme events including seismic & barge impact;
	*	Vulnerability assessment of critical structures under blast loadings;
	*	Stability and stress analysis of complex steel and concrete bridges;
	*	Crash simulation of roadside safety features.

All the information regarding workshop agenda, steering committee members and registration information can be found on the internet at: http://www.utrc2.org . I trust you will find the workshop to be both an educational and a stimulating experience while enjoying many networking opportunities. The topics listed above will be discussed at the Workshop. *We are also honored to have the renowned Dr. John Kulicki from Modjeski and Masters to present the keynote address.
