RE: Frank Lloyd Wright

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Architecturally speaking, he was a visionary. My office has been
involved in providing structural engineering services for some of his
projects, including most recently the Robie House in Chicago. As a
tangent, the University of Chicago has the original steel shop drawings,
beautiful documents! During the investigation of the project, I learned
that Mr. Wright would design the building architecturally, and then the
structural design typically was done by the builder, with what seems to
be a "this is what I want, now make it stand up mentality." This seems
to be similar to the architect / engineer relationship of today...

Many Architects think Frank Lloyd Wright was a true visionary who could
do no wrong. What is your opinion of him and his accomplishments?

A light discussion topic for a Friday......
