RE: Calcs on the web! Any worries?

Jake-

I don't think I can get by with just posting part of the work. First of
all, I won't be the one posting. The owner will be. I have to deliver a
full package to my client (the architect) who it turn will turn it into
the owner. So, they will post the entire package.

:Can you get around this by posting design criteria and
:schematic drawings? Give enough information so they know what
:they are buying but not enough so they can reproduce it
:without your input (or a lot of work on their part).
:Personally, I like the idea of putting your name on it along
:with copyright information. This way if someone does take the
:idea, you might have legal recourse. Posting design criteria
:could help inform people what it is good for. If it is used
:for other loads, they have been told what is was designed for.
:
:I will also second the E&O comment. Sounds like a good phone
:call to make.
:
:Best of luck,

:
:
:I'm proposing on a project which will serve as a prototype for
:several installations. The owner wants to put the prototype
:drawings and calculations on their website so that their
:customers can see the design. I am told that I can omit my
:name and my company's name from the calculations and any
:drawings I produce. I can also (like the architect) include
:any disclaimer language (like "this design probably is not
:appropriate for the location you are considering" or something
:along those lines).
:
:Should I take the job? The work is with one of my very best
:clients and I would hate for him to go to a competitor. Of
:course, if the R-T-R (Risk to Reward) ratio is unattractive,
:then by all means, I don't mind letting my competitor have the
:work :o).
:
:Your opinions would be appreciated.
