Don’t discount “salary compression.” It appears to continue to be a factor in the marketplace as it has been for at least three decades.

 

In short, people will pay a sharp young engineer almost as much as they will an engineer with 10, 15, 20 years of experience and more, and it doesn’t take long before the young guys ARE making as much as their older colleagues who labor in the same trenches as they.

For at least the past three years, the starting compensation packages for entry level structural engineers with MSCE degrees in Dallas has been at or above $50K.
