How to reduce angle size?

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Hi!

Connection Angle Design for the Car Impact:

Impact load=10 kips (Ultimate)
Eccentricity=5.5 in
Angle length=10 in (A36)

Thickness of Angle=
SQRT[ 4*10kips*5.5in / (0.9(phi)*36ksi(Fy)*10in)] = 0.82in
Is this calculation correct?
Isn?t angle thickness too big?
How can I reduce this angle size?

Wontae
