Obscure boards to get GOP revamp
By David M. Drucker , Staff Writer

- Among the changes wrought by Gov.- elect Arnold Schwarzenegger, none might
be bigger than his expected reshaping of the Building Standards Commission,
an anonymous state body whose recent rulings caused home-repair and
new-housing costs to jump by thousands of dollars. The BSC helps determine
the codes that govern acceptable home-building products and design. Recalled
Gov. Gray Davis stacked the commission with labor-friendly appointees, and
the BSC made decisions lauded by unions but decried by builders and
consumers who face higher construction and repair costs due to the BSC's
rulings.

I heard a rumor last night that there is only about a 50% chance that CA
will follow through on its decision to adopt the NFPA 5000. Is this just
one guy's opinion, or is there some truth to this?

Except for when California is officially using the NFPA Code.  Calif.
engineers will have to stretch to help in projects outside the state and
other States won't bother asking Calif. for help.  Steve Widmayer, PE

This is a perfect example of how the SEAINT (or other) List can help a
company or peer find help in a specific state. I know it is not foolproof,
but it sure is nice to see it in action when it works.
