Earthquake ground movement question

In addition to what Roger mentioned, literature about
the 1964 Anchorage, Alaska earthquake has a diagram
that shows how the legs of a piece of furniture etched
their tracks in the surface of a wood floor.  I don't
recall the document, but I can vividly picture the
tracks...d a v e  e v a n s
