RE:Barge Rams Bridge, Deliberately

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Did the researchers try to predict what would happen when the bridge was rammed? (How big a dent, what would fail first, etc.) and publish their prediction prior to the test?

(A number of years ago, the Energy Department's Federal Labs had a "contest" in which lab each tried to predict the pressure at which a concrete containment system will fail. They all missed it miserably. And of course, after the test (and the benefit that comes from knowing what the answer should be), they tweaked their pre-test anaylsis to show their "prediction" was correct anyway.)
