RE: bending deflection due to weld shrinkage

You need to write another small check to Lincoln Electric. Get The Procedure Handbook of Arc Welding. There is a lot larger section on Welding Distortion in Sect. 3.1-1.

Blodgett's book has a formula for estimating the
amount of bending deflection that will result from
longitudinal welds on a member. Presumably, the
formula is applicable for continuous welds. (Design of
Welded STructures pg 7.7-6)

Are there any other reference works that give similar
formulas, but for intermittent welds (say,
four-inch-long welds every 12 inches)?

If not, would it be reasonable to use the results from
Blodgett's formula multiplied by the ratio of
intermittent weld length to weld spacing?
