RE: Shear wall using steel stud with steel sheet / strap

How about “wood structural panel” over steel stud? The only information I can find on the web seems to be “proprietary” (i.e. you have to pay e.g. LGSEA or NASFA for design guides for steel stud shearwalls—more of that “cutting off your nose to spite your face” attitude we sadly see among far too many trade groups).

Maybe I’ll go with the CEMCO instead; the architect is doing an EIFS exterior anyway, and the wallboard ought to be find on the interior as well.

Have a look at the CEMCO "Sure-Board" product, ICBO/ICC #ER-5762.  It is sheet metal covered gyp board used over metal studs and has some good shear values.  You may be able to see the product at www.sureboard.com

Does anyone know what the code status is for steel stud / steel sheet shear wall in California?  A couple of years ago I went to a LGSEA seminar, and the steel stud / steel sheet shear wall was not approved at that time.  Thanks.
