Rigid Diaphram command in STAAD

Dear all,

Sub : Rigid diaphram command in STAAD

Are you using Rigid Diaphram command in STAAD for considering the 
effect of slab during earthquake (lateral loads).

Please note that in STAAD by default it is considered as a Rigid 

SLAVE RIGID 'Master Joint', 'Slave Nodes'

This command will consider rigidity in X,Y & Z directions. However, as 
slab is flexible in out of the plane (Y-direction of STAAD), it can 
provide rigidity in horizontal directions (X and Z of STAAD)only. 
Hence, this command shall be correctly 
defined as follows :

SLAVE FX FZ 'Master Joint', 'Slave Nodes'

By defining the slab as a Rigid Diaphram,i.e rigidity in X,Y & Z 
directions will incurr huge errors in the analysis. Also this command 
shall be used catiously if there are large cut outs in the slab.
