Re: American Building Code Imperialism

I think the same that Bill. I have lived for 28 years in Venezuela and I have designed all my structures with ACI and AISC Codes. Now I am also using IBC 2003, that I think, is an excellent guide to design.
Before, I worked in Chile for many years, and I designed with DIN Codes.
Usually, the Sudamerican Codes are simple traductions of USA Codes, and are very old.
In Venezuela, is still valid 1983 ACI Code

I have long been amazed at the proliferation of American building codes in

american businesses and to students who studied in the US and then returned

.OR it can be attributed to the fact that more research into building system and component behavior goes on here than anywhere else.

Your use of the term "imperialism" is odious. I was not aware that the American military was now engaged in "code enforcement" throughout the "empire".
