The term insurance is cheap, but cheap insurance is a helluva reason to join a trade association. If they had any damn sense they'd get together a decent medical insurance program good enough to be an alternate to company plans so it'd be transferable when the member gets laid off or goes out on his own. Too useful, I guess, and not in the company's best interest, since it'd be one less thing to discourage job hopping.
