RE: SMRF Strong Column - Weak Beam condition at Roof

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Size the roof beam as required by code for satisfying drift and stress
checks. Depending on the governing code, there is an exception in the
Steel section under SMRFs that exists for beams at the roof level of
buildings that, if satisfied, allows that the strong column-weak beam
need not be satisfied for those conditions.

Subject: SMRF Strong Column - Weak Beam condition at Roof

What is the industry practice for sizing a RBS roof beam for a Special
Moment Resisting Frame? Are the Roof Beams generally smaller in size as
compared to the beams at floor levels - inorder to satisfy strong column
- weak beam condition?

Nitin
