Robert,

I have been using the SSMA standard; but after some confusion over what I was specifying, I have started adding a note below the designation calling out the studs in the traditional terms. For instance, below the designation you gave as an example, I would included a note that read (6" stud, 16 gauge). I also have put onto some of my drawings a guide on how to read the nomenclature. (It was copied for a steel stud catalog.) I hope that in time our purchasing department will get used to the nomenclature, and then I will drop the double call-out.

Subject: Anybody Using SSMA Designations for Call-Outs on Light Gage Structures ?

Just wanted a quick poll to see if anyone is calling out their light gage members on drawings using the SSMA standard (i.e., 600S162-54) ?

Thanks

Robert
