Re: Web connection holes

Section F4 specifically allows shear stress to be calculated on the overall depth and web thickness. This is expanded on slightly in the commentary. Then section J4 provides for checks where the beam top flange is coped for shear through the fasteners.

Subject: Web connection holes

Hello World,

Can someone cite the specific page where the ASD 9th edition, part 5,
lets you neglect fastener bolt holes for web shear? That's the
assertion in Salmon and Johnson, 3rd edition, pg 430, ref. 1.5. Sure
would appreciate knowing where to find it.

Thanks,
