RE: Construction Tolerance

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
James,

You can view a draft version of ACI 117 here:

http://www.concrete.org/tempComDocs/-31069/117-117r_for_public_discussion.pdf

This is a draft for public comment on future revisions, so of course you'll have to determine what version of ACI 301 and/or ACI 117 the contract documents referred to and look at that.

This CRSI document has some discussion of concrete construction tolerances, specifically addressing your issue of slab edges:

James,

ACI 301, "Specifications for Structural Concrete", which is the spec for concrete construction, references ACI 117, "Standard Specifications for Tolerance for Concrete Construction and Materials" for the acceptable dimensional tolerances.

My client is attempting to install a curtainwall system on a 20 story
building. The post tensioned slab edges are out of plumb by as much as 5
inches. It is almost impossible to build a plumb wall on this building.

Guess what. The concrete contractor says he is within tolerance.

Anyone know what is acceptable for the tolerance? Is there an ACI standard?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
