Before you give up completely you may want to try the user forums on the autodesk website. Someone there may know the right trick or tool.

Perhaps you are well beyond this point, but doesn't Autocad make a backup of the file on a regular basis - same file name, but with a ".bak" extension rather than ".dwg".

Well, I guess we can abort this whole process.

I've had two different individuals with two different versions of Autocad later than mine try all the typical tricks and NOTHING works. Too bad.
