RE: CMU shearwalls

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
I just found my Spring 2003 copy of Masonry Chronicles. It states that the
MSJC code does not use the 1.5 multiplier per the UBC. That's all they say.
I notice that MSJC (ACI 530) now uses strength adjustment and reduction
factors (psuedo strength design) in working stress design, and that's where
they must adjust for the 1.5(?)

Under UBC (2107.1.7) there is a provision that the shear stress in cmu
shearwalls in seismic zones 3 and 4 had to be increased by a factor of 1.5,
(fv=1.5V/bjd). Does anyone know if there is an equivalent increase required
under IBC 2000 with ACI 530 for higher seismic design categories? I am
having trouble finding it.
