RE: Crack monitoring

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Jim,

I use two of my business cards, one partially overlapping the other; one
adhered to one side of the crack, and the other adhered to the other side.
I then carefully mark two straight perpendicular lines onto the cards with a
fine-point pencil, both lines extending onto both cards, and date the lines.
A displacement across the crack will show up as an offset in one or both
lines, indicating the amount of displacement and the direction. For
exterior surfaces, I use plastic cards. If there is displacement, new lines
may be marked and dated periodically. I also mark and date the ends of
cracks.

I've had folks, new owners, call me after finding my cards still on the wall
years after I placed them.
