RE: Lattice Tower Bolts

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
Mike,

Transmission tower bolts manufactured to ASTM A394 are not required to be
tensioned over a minimum preload like ASTM A325 or A490 bolts.
The zinc-coated A394 bolts are available in nominal diameters of 1/2" up to
1" inclusive, are fabricated from low carbon and medium carbon steel, and
are available with either a square or a hexagon head. They also seem to be
the preferred choice in low-temperature applications.
The quenched and tempered A325 bolts are available in diameters from 1/2" up
to 1-1/2" inclusive, and are fabricated from medium carbon steel. A325 bolts
have a heavy-hex head only. Up to 1" diameter, they have a minimum tensile
strength of 120 ksi, and 105 ksi if greater than 1".

That's all I know about it...

Subject: Lattice Tower Bolts

ASCE 10-97, Design of Latticed Steel Transmission Structures, recommends
ASTM A394 bolts instead of A325. Looking through the ASTM sections for
each of these, they look pretty similar. Can someone tell me what the
differences are?

Thanks,
