Subject: STEEL: Stainless Steel for Structural Applications

Greetings, all.

I am aware via this site:

That there is no U.S. design code for hot-rolled stainless steel for structural applications (ASCE 8 covers cold-formed stainless steel).

There is a Eurocode (ENV1993-1-1:1992), and I believe there are design codes in Australia and Japan, at the least, but nothing here.

1) How do you design using 304/316 stainless structural members in the U.S.?

2) What do the model building code developers think?

3) Is there such a code in the offing?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
