The 97 UBC 2219 has wood panel on light gage metal shear walls.  If the
California Code is based on the UBC you could probably use the screws
prescribed there.  No. 8 by 1" flat head .292" diameter head.  00 IBC
2211.3.3 says SAE J78.

Have you checked the ICC-ES website? I suspect that whatever is accepted
there probably has LA City approval.
