Just look at any commercial FEA code to see what it's brought. FEA apps are more bloated and buggier than ever. Actually the quality of software in general except for shareware, has gotten worse as machines get faster and disk space gets cheaper. Microsoft Word and Excel are two more ghastly examples.

But I don't think it's programmers who do the damage--I think it's the marketing droids who see feature bloat and not bug fixes as the way to sell software, by creating the 'new and improved' illusion.
