RE: Hurricane and/or Seismic Issues wrt Metal Deck Design

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
In Miami, Dade County, a metal roof deck cannot be considered as a diaphragm, which means you either have to provide a concrete roof system (slab on metal deck) or use horizontal diagonal bracing in conjunction with the roof deck.

Gary:

Things are windy here, not shakey...but the deck design is usually
Governed by floor/roof assembly fire rating and/or required diaphragm
strength...

List,

Can anybody from windy and/or shaky places tell me if there are any
special precautions they take with regard to metal roof or floor deck
design?

I am wondering if there are any special design provisions I should be
aware of which may affect the selection of a suitable deck profile or
installation of same.

thanks,
Gary
