Gypsum board for bracing in 03 IBC Seismic Design Category D?

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]

Anyone:

Per the 2003 IBC can sheetrock be used to brace buildings in Seismic Design Category D?  What values are supposed to be used?

03 IBC Table 2306.4.5 footnote a indicates “….Values shown are for short-term loading due to wind or seismic loading in Seismic Design Categories A, B and C…”  00 IBC Table 2306.4.5 footnote a read “Values shown are for short-term loading due to wind or seismic loading in Seismic Design Categories A, B and C.  Values shall be reduced by 50 percent in Seismic Design Category D….”

03 Table 1617.6.2  1. L still allows a height of 35 feet for light framed bearing walls braced with materials other than wood panel but it looks like the gypsum shear values are no longer provided.

Thanks.
