I've never gotten this.

Baseball can be excruciating in the tension it brings. Nothing like
being down a run in the ninth inning, a couple of men on base and a
bruising hitter coming up to the plate, the manager walking out to
change pitchers, bringing in the unhittable closer, etc.

Man, oh man.
