I may be mistaken, but I think when you run the set up you are asked if you
would like additional features which would involve sending info back to
google.  I know for sure that is true of their toolbar.  So you can run both
applications (desktop and toolbar) without those features.

James,

Cause there was talk that Google's desktop search "phoned home to mama"
with some aggregate "data mining" type stuff that they could then use for
advertising type stuff.  I remember the concern, but don't really remember
what ended up happening over all...the hub-bub kind of died down.
