RE: Any Young Engineers Out There?

Title: Message

Interesting! I’d still say I’m “young” (according to NSPE and ASCE that means under 35 J) but I learned LRFD exclusively in the mid 90’s at VT  then was quickly retrained to ASD when I joined the working world.  Fortunately, I work pretty comfortably in both.

As far as young engineers monitoring the list, we are out here (and apparently a lot of us are Hokies!)  I have been fortunate to see and do a lot of design in my relatively short career to date, but I am reminded on a daily how much more there is to learn- so I just sit back and try to soak it all in.  Thanks to all who contribute.

The steel design class I took was based on ASD. I was introduced to AISC LRFD design in another design class that covered a wide variety of topics. Basically all I learned was that LRFD existed and that it might allow you to use slightly lighter members.

A question to all the young Engineers out there from a geezer:  Are they teaching AISC LRFD now?

Thanks.

Does 26 years old and not quite 4 years of experience count?

It seems the majority of the active members on this list have been engineers for quite a while.  So I was wondering if there where any young engineers on this list server?  (I guess young at heart counts too J
