AWS leads the way in charging for standards.

Historically there has been a problem with structural
engineers being ignorant of welding issues.  This
problem is definately agrevated by the high cost of
this and related standards.

What impact does the high cost of standards have upon
the practice of structural engineering, especially in
small firms?  Does it result in designing using
outdated standards, or does it make small firms
reluctant to get involved with different types of projects?
