RE: PT SOG gravel base topping

I was never that sophistocated about requiring an ASTM spec. I called the local crushers and asked what they had that would work for my intended performance. I stole the idea from Kalman Floors. The angularity of the "crusher fines" disqualifies it for most other applications for ASTM C33.

Quaries will add some coarse aggregate and call it "road base".

I just know that it works and it is cheap. If you absolutely need an ASTM or something, call your local crusher and ask them what they would suggest.

Is there an ASTM or other standard for crusher fines, or an enforceable,
commonly recognized definition?

The most effective sub base topping I have seen is a layer of crusher fines.

It is angular enough to compact well and hold firmly in place when you are

working on it.  Pea gravel will compact, but it tends to roll around.  The
best approach is then to top it with geotech fabric which prevents the
concrete to flow around and create interlock with the aggregate base.

The crusher fines and the geotech fabric provide a very good slip plane.
