The Building Code of Pakistan (first) issued in 1986 is an outdated document and is currently being updated (post October 8, 2005 EQ).The earlier version was based on the then current version of UBC. It is very likely the updated version conforms to UBC 97.Meanwhile interim recommendations being issued for Seismic Design are based on UBC 97. Structural Engineers in Pakistan have over the years been largely using current versions of UBC for Seismic Design.I myself have post 2003 used both UBC 97 or IBC 2003 (depending upon Client's requirements). We are a Lahore(Pakistan) based firm of Civil/Structural Engineers and are experienced in Seismic Design. In fact for the last one year we have been working for a San Diego based Structural Engineering firm on a couple of Eighteen Storied Buildings in San Diego (California Building Code). Subject: Pakistan Building Code & Structural Engineers

I have 2 questions / requests:

1. Is the current building code in Pakistan predicated on the 1997 UBC?

2. I am looking to collaborate with a good structural engineering firm in Pakistan skilled in seismic resistant design. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Regards,
Harold Sprague
