According to the Vulcraft catalog for joists and girders...
For a 44LH12, depth = 1118 mm, and for a clear span of 22,250mm, W_total = 5.86 kN/m, W_live = 3.38 kN/m.
The approx. mom of inertia, I_j = 2.6953 * W_live * L^3 * 10^-5, where L = span + 204, in millimeters.

I suggest you request a catalog of steel decking and joists from Vulcraft.  (www.vulcraft.com).  It's a handy reference to have.

If this gives you strange numbers in your STAAD analysis, then you may need to follow Bill's advice about going out there and physically measuring the roof members.  Either that, or look for another analysis program...  I've having my issues with STAAD right now...

Hello David,
Thanks for the info. I am doing the design of building which has the LH series joist at the roof which supports steel deck roof.
The maximum roof span is 22m and the building is 100mx76m in plan. I am modeling the building in STAAD and I am using beam elements to model joist in STAAD model. Hence if you can give me a reference from which I can get the moment of inertia and other properties of joist that would be helpful for me.
regards
Ashraf

If it's a Vulcraft joist, it looks like a 44" deep, LH-series joist (hence, 1100)...
For a 44LH12, the properties are...
25lbs/ft, a safe load of 29,600 lbs, and a range of spans from 47 ft to 80 ft.
Hope this helps.

Hello all,
I would like to know what is the properties of 1100LH12 open web joist.
The units are SI.
Can anybody give some references?

Does anyone have a load table for "18-D-12" joist that can be emailed to me?
