Use Exccel and link the cells in your spreadsheet to the Word document. Use equation writer or Word's math typesetting markups (my preference) to show equations. You can also make calculation sheet templates and merge numerical results into them. I'm in a one-holer practice, and I don't think I could function without Excel, even though much of my practice is FEA.
