Phoenix footing detail

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]

Hi Rich:

In Phoenix, it is very common to have very expansive soil.  In some areas of Phoenix they call it Caliche.  Rocky, and expansive.  Geotech reports commonly require deeper than normal footings as a result.  For this and a number of other reasons, it is very typical to see a separate strip footing for the wall you are describing.   It is not common to see a turn-down slab- grade beam footing using a single pour.

For the concrete floor slab-on-grade, it is your call (and your geotech) whether to float the floor, or tie it to the cmu wall.  I have seen it both ways in Phoenix.
