RE: Floating Slab for Residence

[Subject Prev][Subject Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next]
I would recommend a vapor retarder under the slab. A coworker had a
house with a SOG, and he said that it would get very humid in the summer
compared to a house with a basement. Also, moisture from the ground can
cause problems with floor coverings that are adhered to the slab.

Install the perimeter footing and insulation.

Use a 5" thick slab, reinforce the slab, and tie the
slab into the foundations. My preference for slab reinforcement is #5 @
12" oc each way. This may seem like a lot of reinforcement but it will
control the size of the cracks.
